Sciatica refers to when the Sciatic nerve becomes irritated, most commonly as a result of a disc problem, like a herniated disc, but it can also be caused by spinal stenosis or degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis. Sciatica may also be caused by physical trauma like car accidents, personal injury, weightlifting or the like. The Sciatic nerve runs from the lower back down to the leg and when irritated can make everyday life extremely uncomfortable. Here at Front Street Medical, we are dedicated to treating Sciatica with a non-invasive, highly effective, comprehensive plan that is personalized to each patient.

Sciatica is characterized by one or more of these symptoms:

  • Pain often described as a burning or shooting pain down the back into the leg
  • Numbness that can often be accompanied by tingling and weakness
  • Symptoms in only one side of the body
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Loss of mobility

Sciatica can be easily mis-diagnosed and confused with non-related back or leg issues so a medical evaluation is necessary. As such, the providers at Front Street Medical will first work to diagnose the issue and cause in order to prescribe the most effective treatment possible. Before any treatment, we conduct a physical examination as well as review medical history. Diagnostic testing may also be necessary.

Treatment of Sciatica is dependent on the cause. Here at Front Street Medical, we offer an array of non-surgical treatment options for Sciatica including Spinal Adjustments, Spinal Decompression, Physiotherapy and Manual Therapy. Although every case is different, our patients typically see results within the first three weeks of treatment.
